Community Kitchen

Cooking at Newbery Park is a rich and purposeful part of our curriculum, embedded across the school as a weekly learning experience for all students. Through structured cooking lessons, students develop practical life skills while strengthening their understanding of health, nutrition and sustainability.

Wherever possible, ingredients are sourced directly from our on-site garden, allowing students to experience the full journey from growing and harvesting to preparing and sharing food. This hands-on approach builds confidence, independence and a deep appreciation for where food comes from.

Our Community Kitchen extends this learning beyond the classroom, creating meaningful opportunities for families to engage alongside their children. Fortnightly after-school cooking classes bring parents together to build skills, share experiences and connect with one another in a welcoming and supportive environment.

These sessions support food security within our community by equipping families with the knowledge, confidence and practical skills to prepare healthy, affordable meals, while also strengthening relationships and fostering a strong sense of belonging.

Each Friday, our school comes together for something truly special. Students, staff and community members collaborate to prepare a whole-school meal, which is then shared in our purpose-built Dining Hall. Sitting together and enjoying food prepared collectively reinforces a strong sense of care, dignity and connection, ensuring every child is nourished and included as part of our school community.
